Striped Bass (Morone saxatilis) This sexy saxatilis is my most recent completed work. I kept a picture of the painting in its early stages to provide a glimpse of what the process is like.
This Bluefish painting is a work in progress. I am currently working on other commissioned paintings but will get back to finishing this one before the summer. Bluefish are challenging paint simply because they don't have a whole lot of color to work with. Perhaps that's why not many people choose to paint them... either that, or they've been bitten by the little bastards.
Steelhead Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Watercolor, 12"x16" Completed: January 28, 2010 This is a paint and release of a fish caught by Ted McDermott on the Deschutes River, Oregon, in November 2009 using a Hoh-Bo Spey fly.
Brook Trout(Salvelinus fontinalis) Watercolor, 9"x12" Completed: December 20, 2009
Comments: This was my first painting of a Brook Trout that I did as a gift for my family last December. I did this with a portable watercolor set consisting of 8 colors and 2 brushes. Sorry about the reflection, I took this picture after it was framed.
Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), Spawning male Watercolor, 12"x16" Price: $?
Comments: This is my latest work in progress. This photo was taken with my phone so it does not show the entire painting, but it will be a very realistic and accurate profile of one of my favorite freshwater species.
My name is Hugh Murphy and I love fish. Fly fishing and painting are two of my great passions in life. In many ways, this blog is my creative outlet and a unique way for me to unify those passions. I have another blog called T-Rex Trying (http://trextrying.tumblr.com/) which features funny cartoons of a T-Rex trying to make it in contemporary society. Although T-Rex rarely succeeds, he never stops trying - proving that perseverance is a virtue in and of itself. I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California and will be completing my residency in Advanced Prosthodontics at UNC Chapel Hill. I usually do paintings on commission, but I am open to receiving offers for the completed works posted on this site. I also have signed limited edition prints available for purchase. Interested parties should email me at hughmurphy28@gmail.com. Please note that 5% of any sale will be donated to local stream and river conservation initiatives.
